Medicine Cup Charity Tournament (MCCT)

Who: You and your friends!

What: Medicine Cup Charity Tournament (MCCT) – 4 on 4 outdoor pond hockey.

When: February 1st-3rd, 2019

Where: Edmonton community outdoor hockey rinks

Why: Little Warriors Charity + an amazing time

MCCT is a 4 on 4 outdoor hockey tournament put on annually by students from the University of Alberta medical school to raise money for a local charity. This year we will be supporting Little Warriors, an organization committed to awareness, treatment, and prevention of child sexual abuse. If you haven’t participated before, MCCT is an opportunity to meet new people, hang out with friends, and play some great hockey.  There are divisions for men and women, both competitive and noncompetitive. In addition to the tournament, the weekend features a social night and tons of sweet raffle prizes to add to the fun!

About the Tournament

This will be the 14th annual MCCT tournament and it has grown every year with over $120,000 raised since the first event! It will take place February 1-3rd, 2019 and is once again open to community members and students from all disciplines.

The registration can be done at here: https://goo.gl/forms/n9llmO9tJDUdlYLv2 before January 23, 2019 at 11:59PM but if you want our newly designed MCCT shirts and swag bags, you need to register by January 7th, 2019 at 11:59pm. Team fees are $350 and can either be paid through e-transfer (mcctcoordinator@gmail.com) or collected at the team manager meeting on February 1st. As this is a 4 on 4 tournament, team sizes of about 11 people (6 forwards, 4 defence, goalie) are a good size to aim for.

For more information, please visit our website http://medicinecup.org/ or email us back with any questions you may have. We look forward to hosting your teams at MCCT and supporting a great cause!

Resident Physician Led Events

Selfless, self-care

Call for a Cause has been a great tradition within the Department of Psychiatry. Every year, residents and faculty have generously contributed income from a call shift to support a charitable organization selected by residents.

This year, in addition to raising funds for charity, we have also organized resident led-events to promote self-care and positive work culture within each AHS site called, “Selfless, self-care.”

The resident body voted to raise funds for Society for Treatment of Autism (STA) this year. This Alberta-based organization has a specific interest in advocating for crisis beds for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), providing bridging services for individuals with ASD who have been recently discharged from hospital awaiting PDD services, and for providing behavioral consultations for adults with ASD struggling at group homes.

As mentioned, residents have collected donations for STA at “Selfless, self-care” events organized at each AHS site to promote positive work culture and self-care. We were delighted to have Dr. Harpur lead a Qigong session at RGH, and Dr. Ewashina lead a Limbus movement class at PLC.

We warmly invite each of you and your colleagues to participate in our two remaining “Selfless, self-care” events (feel free to distribute attached flyers).

Limbus movement class led by Drs. Ewashina and Bourque on January 18, 2019 at 12pm in the HRIC Atrium at FMCregister to attend at this link

Zumba class led by Dr. Toba on January 25, 2019 at 1pm in the YMCA at SHCregister to attend at this link

We also welcome your generous contributions to Society for the Treatment for Autism. Donations can be made at the following at the following link. Please note (“Selfless, Self-care”) in the message line. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/12702. Tax receipts will be issued.

Thank you for your overwhelming support of this initiative. If you are interested in contributing to the organization of future “Selfless, self-care” events, please send an email to jivraj.jamil@gmail.com.
